John Paul Thornber

Investment Manager & Strategist, Economics and Market Commentator

John believes that managing the investments of others, be they individuals, families, trusts or pensions, through changing times, is one of the most profoundly important roles in modern life.

John recognises markets and economies as organic, living mechanisms, representing the thoughts and actions of millions, yet is also heavily schooled in the theories and dogma of mainstream practice and, as a result, views them with a suitably jaundiced eye.

He has experienced the coalface of financial markets managing the front office of an award winning stock-brokers, investing directly in assets globally. He has built and guided multi-asset portfolios for private clients, charities and trusts as Head of Research, Investment Strategist and Alternative Asset Specialist for a leading national investment managers while also acting as the Strategist on a Strategic Bond Fund.

John is a Chartered Fellow of the Securities and Investment Institute, and a Diploma member of the Personal Finance Society. He has a degree in Literature and Philosophy and believes it is the logical rigour of the latter that helps him stand aside from “common knowledge”, helping inform his warnings of a credit crunch and the consequences of Lehman’s failure months before they occurred.
